Use Case and Workflow

Use Case #1: You want to improve your learning with topics you are working on.

Target Audience

  1. You are a writer or researcher struggling with scattered notes, articles, and research materials across multiple platforms, leading to inefficiencies and lost insights.
  2. You are a student (e.g., undergraduate, self-learner, career changer) who wants to better leaen, understand, and review the knowledge from the course you are studying.
  3. You are a content creator or journalist who wants to reduce cognitive load and improve productivity by centralizing your research materials.

Workflow Overview

  1. When you're reading a book, begin by highlighting important paragraphs and compiling them into a single note. Place this book note into a module within your note-taking system. Then, break down this comprehensive note into multiple smaller concept notes, each focusing on a single idea or concept. Use visual elements like arrows and sections to connect and group these concept notes, establishing a vivid knowledge structure of the book.
  2. In the future, when you're researching a new topic, create a new module and import relevant concept notes from different books and sources related to that topic. Synthesize these notes so you can apply what you've learned in the past to your current work. This approach allows you to integrate new knowledge with existing concepts effectively.

The purpose of visualizing notes is to gain a deep understanding of what you've learned. If your notes are very long and not broken down into smaller parts, the understanding you can gain from visualization will be very limited. Real deep understanding doesn't come from the “relationship between two books” but from the “relationship between all the concepts in these two books.”

You can achieve a deep understanding of the topics you care about through visual note-taking when you atomize your notes. Atomic note-taking doesn't mean you cannot have long notes; it means that each concept note should contain only one concept and be supported by its content. To ensure clarity, always describe the concept in one sentence and use that sentence as the title of the concept note.

Knowledge Acquisition Workflow

  1. Article: The best way to acquire knowledge from readings

Use Case #2: You want to transform your thoughts into coherent writing.

Target Audience

  • You are an industry leader (e.g., product manager, corporate executive, founder) who wants to synthesize your planning, research, ideas, and domain knowledge on your work project to make better work decisions.
  • You are an academic project leader (e.g., scholars, graduate students) who wants to make sense of academic literature and your research logs to produce better research outcomes.
  • You are a creative project leader (e.g., creators, teachers, consultants) who wants to synthesize your knowledge, creative ideas, and reference materials to produce better creative content.

Workflow Overview

  1. To start, enter the Module that contains your relevant notes and ideas. If your notes are not yet organized, you can quickly arrange them by reviewing and mapping your insights. Once inside the Module, create a new note by double-clicking an empty space, give it a temporary title, and open it in the editor. This will serve as the workspace for your writing.
  2. Next, utilize the right sidebar’s References component to link relevant notes to your current project. Click the “Connect Ideas” icon to populate the sidebar with related notes. If any important notes are missing, use Modus AI’s hybrid search to find them, which combines both keyword and semantic search capabilities. Organize these links in your outline by pasting them under appropriate sections or paragraphs. Begin writing your draft, referring to these notes as needed, and gradually replace the links in your outline with your own text.
  3. As you refine your draft, take advantage of Modus AI’s features to improve your work. Summarize complex or lengthy notes to distill them into concise, clear points. You can also attach additional files or notes to enrich your content, and use the AI Chat Agents to identify areas for improvement, clarify your writing, or generate new ideas.

Thoughts to Writing Workflow

Use Case #3: You want a structured and intelligent system to store and retrieve anything you are learning.

Target Audience

  • You are a creative professional (e.g., content creators, marketers) who manages multiple projects and reference materials and needs to streamline your creative process through smart retrieval and contextual linking of notes.
  • You are an executive or manager (e.g., project managers, consultants) who needs a reliable system to organize and retrieve vast amounts of project-related data, ensuring critical insights are always accessible for strategic planning.

Workflow Overview

In today’s digital age, notes can easily pile up, making it difficult to find valuable insights. Modus AI offers a structured system to help you store, retrieve, and connect your notes seamlessly, enhancing productivity and comprehension.

  1. Modus AI’s Global Search allows you to find notes instantly using a combination of semantic and keyword searches. By accessing the search window, you can locate not only notes that match exact keywords but also those that are contextually related, making it easier to retrieve relevant information from your large note collection.
  2. Modus AI’s AI agent, Socrates, enhances note retrieval by fetching results based on meaning and context, even when keywords aren’t explicitly mentioned. This approach mimics how the human brain connects ideas, following the principles of the Zettelkasten Method, helping you build a more integrated external memory.
  3. Modus AI helps you understand the context of each note by showing its placement within your modules. By clicking on the note’s information, you can see related modules and tags, enabling a visual overview of how your ideas connect and fit within your broader knowledge base.

This structured system mirrors natural human thought processes, minimizing cognitive load and boosting productivity by keeping your valuable insights easily accessible and well-organized.
